Ampumuza Desire

My name is Ampumuza Desire, and I am thrilled to introduce myself as a Social Media Intern at OEDP.

Hailing from the landscapes of Uganda, nestled within the East African plateau, I have been intimately connected with agricultural communities and the delicate balance required for successful farming amidst environmental preservation. Growing up amidst the Rwenzori mountain range, I witnessed firsthand the consequences of shortsighted environmental decisions, including deforestation, land degradation, and water pollution.Living near a waste site, I observed the detrimental effects of improper waste disposal, including the spread of diseases and environmental degradation. My upbringing instilled in me a profound understanding of the importance of environmental stewardship and its impact on future generations.

This firsthand experience ignited my passion for environmental advocacy and drove me to pursue a degree in Geography Studies at Makerere University. During my studies, I explored the interconnectedness between human activities and the environment, gaining insights into environmental possibilism and determinism. Through fieldwork in areas affected by floods and landslides, such as Kasese, Mbale, and Rukungiri, I witnessed the devastating impacts of climate change and unsustainable practices on local communities.

Now, as a Social Media Intern at OEDP, I am excited to leverage my knowledge and passion to engage communities, raise awareness, and advocate for sustainable solutions. Collaborating with experts like Michelle Cheripka, I look forward to facilitating discussions via social media and sharing valuable insights on environmental governance and open data.

My goal is to bridge the gap between environmental awareness and action, empowering individuals and communities to make informed decisions that contribute to a healthier planet. Through our collective efforts, we can create a brighter, more sustainable future for generations to come.

I look forward to being a part of OEDP and encourage you to join us as we harness the power of open data  to address environmental challenges and promote sustainable practices that create a more resilient environment for all.
